-
- Without a new graphics system *AS STANDARD* very few developers,
- especially the games developers who bring in the large number of sales of
- Amigas that we so desperately need, won't bother using it. With a chipset
- fitted AS STANDARD you can develop for it in confidence. Without it,
- you've got to assume that someone has a suitable card, that the card does
- the features you require, that the drivers are up to date, etc. etc. etc.
-
- Amiga games were so good not just because of the AGA chipset special
- features, but because it was standard. You knew that if you tried some
- copperlist or blitter trick on your AGA machine it was pretty much going
- to work on any AGA Amiga (unless you'd done something stupid).
-
- Without standardization you're limited to the lowest common denominator,
- which will bring EXACTLY the same problems that PC games programmers have
- had trying to support umpteen SVGA 'standards'.
-
- For OS legal applications I'd agree with you totally, let the user choose
- which card suits their needs, but for games we really need something
- (even if it's relatively cheap) fitted as standard.
-
- But we're not going to see ANY new Amiga games unless we get an SVGA
- style chipset so companies can port their PC games. Even the cheapest
- low-end SVGA chipsets currently available run circles around SVGA for raw
- performance (and none of that tedious messing around with
- chunky<>planar). By all means allow the power user to upgrade to a BETTER
- chipset on a PCI card or whatever, but we need something as standard!
